Stuff

-My tests could have been better today. If I did bad on them I will blame it on the fact that I had house guests for a week. If I did good on them I will blame it on luck. I was just glad to get them over with either way.
-I got a class ring order form in the mail today. I wasn't prepared for that. I'm not ready to graduate and get a real job. It wasn't nice of them to remind me that it's coming up soon.
-The temperature dropped 30 degrees today. It was 76 at 3:30 when I was driving home. Everything feels different when it's cool outside. It's weird.
-I can't really think of anything else except that Cleveland still doesn't have power. Things aren't going well down there.

Post Hurricane Rita Update

-Cleveland still does not have power. More people have evacuated after the hurricane because of the heat than evacuated for the actual hurricane.
-None of our property was damaged, but my Nana's house was. Luckily, she has insurance.
-My mom and sister stayed with me from Thursday night to Tuesday afternoon. They went back only because the lake house now has power. My dad stayed in Cleveland.
-Heather is in Dallas with Jonathan's family. They may not be able to go back to Beaumont for awhile.
-It's 100+ degrees in Austin, 20 degrees above normal for this time of year.
-I have two tests in a row tomorrow morning.
-Gas is still expensive :(

What a mess :(

Everything's a mess. I'll expound in a later post.

The clouds would be pretty right now if I didn't know they were the outer edge of the freaking hurricane.

Great Weekend 4

Wow. Four great weekends in a row. I'm doing good!
Friday after work I came home and went straight to sleep. I read for the rest of the evening after I woke up. I slept late on Saturday and then read some more. Why was my weekend great? The UT v. Rice football game on Saturday night. UT football games are so great...

Things I love about UT football games:
People flocking to it from all corners of campus. Everyone is headed in the same direction, and wearing burnt orange.
80,000 screaming people who stand up for the entire game.
The way the stadium lights make the sky look purple from a distance.
The way the announcer can be heard from almost anywhere on campus.
Winning 51 to 10!!!

I went to church this morning. Andrew's parents, Ryan, and Coleman were there because they went to the game. We all went and ate at Double Dave's after church. It was fun. I took a nice nap after church and I've been reading ever since.

I almost titled this post "Sleep, Read, Football". It would have been appropriate.

Finally Busy!!

Strange title?? Let me explain...This week has been very busy, but not bad. Generally I have been leaving my apartment around 7:30 and not getting back until about 9. Until this semester I have been very reluctant to join organizations and get too involved in things. I was still jaded from being so involved in too many things during high school. Now, after finally taking the plunge and getting involved in stuff I'm interested in, I remember why I was so involved in high school. It makes life more interesting, and I thrive on being busy! Also, I have met tons of new people in the past couple of weeks, which is great. Of course, I have less time to study and read, but who wants to let a little thing like studying get in the way of college? What has been taking up all of my time, you ask? Well, I'm doing a lot more with the college group at my church, going to kickboxing classes, and attending Texas Belles meetings. Texas Belles is an event planning organization, which is a whole other subject in my life right now. Anyway, as you can see, I have been keeping myself very busy, which is how I LOVE it.

Interesting Day

Today I went to the Austin Convention Center to work at our company table at the job fair for the refugees. All I can say is that it was interesting. I met the mayor of Austin and a woman with a beard. That pretty much sums it up.

Great Weekend 3

This has been an awesome weekend! I started it out by going on a retreat with the university group at church. We went to a place called Champions Retreat in Marble Falls. It was much different than I expected. It was a real summer camp kind of place. Think of the movies "The Parent Trap" and "It Takes Two". It had no AC anywhere, the cabins were screened in, and they made announcements over a loud speaker. I never thought I would experience a camp like that as a junior in college, but it was cool. I met a lot of new people too. Then, last night me, Ellen, Travis, David, and Leah went bowling at The Union. Luckily there was a big screen TV in the bowling alley so I could watch the UT v. OSU game. We left right after we won and I drove them to their dorm. On the way there people started pouring onto the drag and everyone was honking their horns. I dropped them off and had to drive back down the drag to go home. It took me almost 30 minutes to go less than a mile. There were tons of people everywhere. They were all running in the road and giving people high fives. People were hanging out of car windows and standing in the back of trucks. I took pictures with my cell phone. It was crazy, but fun. Andrew called to tell me to wear burnt orange to church today, which I did. It has just been a great weekend. Anyway, I have to work from 8 to 6 tomorrow because I'm working at our company booth at the Job Fair for the refugess at the Austin Convention Center. That should be pretty neat, except for the long hours. I hope everyone has a great week!

Already Overwhelmed

I've only been to class 2 1/2 days and I'm already overwhelmed. I have tons of reading to do and I'm behind, but hopefully I'll catch up this weekend. Tomorrow after work I'm going on a retreat with church in Marble Falls. It should be fun and I'll get back on Saturday night and have all Sunday afternoon to read. I've gone to a kickboxing class at the gym for the past two days. It's really fun and I'm really sore. Unfortunately it's part of the reason I'm not caught up with my reading. Oh well. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Great Weekend 2

I decided to just go to the lake this weekend. The line to pick up season tickets was 2 hours longs on Friday and I didn't even know where my seat was. I'll pick them up before the next game. Anyway, the lake was really fun. I have a sunburn, which doesn't hurt, but I look like a racoon because of my sunglasses. It's actually really amusing. Hopefully it'll fade fast. My roommate went with me. That was pretty cool. We invited a bunch of family too. On Saturday for lunch we had 22 people there. I met Heather and Jonathan at Pine Island on Saturday and Sunday. The whole weekend was great. Now I'm sitting here with tons of stuff to do and I have to be in class at 8 in the morning. Great.

Happy New Year!

For me the first day of school is the new year, not January 1st. That means New Year's resolutions, of which I have a few. Anyway, it was a good first day. It was kind of tiring because I had to go to all my classes yesterday. Starting out the day at 8 in the morning with Business Law is going to be killer, but the professor seems cool, so that will make it more tolerable. He doesn't like 8 o'clock classes either. Marketing is going to be awesome. I was looking forward to it anyway, but the professor is hilarious. He had us laughing the whole time. Organizational behavior, the class most relevant to my major, will be good too. The professor called himself a "serial entrepreneur". He has founded 5 companies in the past 30 years. I was impressed. I'm not looking forward to Operations Management. The instructor is a 6th year PhD student and female. I don't like having women teach my classes. I know that's weird and probably sexist, but whatever. I'm also just not interested in the topic of the class. Anyway, onto other things...I got the season tickets I ordered. I was afraid they would sell out. Now I'm debating whether I want to stay for the game on Saturday evening and drive to the lake afterwards or miss the game and go straight to the lake after work today. I guess I need to make a decision fast. I hate making decisions.
